What is a Child Recovery Order?
- Child Recovery Orders are orders made by the Family Court that require a child or children to be returned to:
- - a parent of the child(ren), or - a person with a parenting order that states the child(ren) lives with them, spends time with or communicates with them, or - some other person (like a grandparent or carer) who has parental responsibility for the child(ren).
- Recovery orders direct police officers to take steps to find, recover, and return a child to the person specified in the orders.
- A recovery order can also prevent a person from removing or taking the child(ren) again.
- A recovery order does not expire when a child(ren) is recovered. It is valid for 12 months from the date of the order unless otherwise stated.
- During this time the police have the power to recover the child multiple times if it becomes necessary.
